Training workshops on using AI at the workplace

Design and delivery

Hands-on workshops that teach teams to do their own work with AI, built around their real tasks and their own data.

days: tools in general, then each person's own tasks

priority areas chosen by the team

exercises with prompts and checkpoints

The brief

Most AI training shows people what the tools can do. I wanted people to leave able to produce their own outputs with AI, and to check them.

Each workshop starts with a site visit to see how the work is really done. The team then picks its priorities. For one manufacturer's finance team these were monthly financial reporting, email handling and ESG reporting on energy consumption.

Deliverables

What I delivered.

Plan and exercise book

Step-by-step exercises for each priority area, each with the prompt to use and a checkpoint to confirm the answer is right.

Practice files

Realistic files with real faults left in, so people learn to catch the mistakes, not only to produce an output.

Answer key

A finished version of every output, so each person can compare their own result.

Actions

What I did.

  • Visited the site before the workshop and built the programme around the tasks the team actually does.
  • Let the team choose the priorities, so the training covered work they do every month.
  • Planted known errors in the practice data and taught people how to find them.

Problems and solutions

What went wrong, and how I handled it.

Every project hits problems along the way. These are the ones that mattered here.

Problem

A first version showed the finished outputs, which people could read but not reproduce.

Solution

I rebuilt it as an exercise book with prompts and checkpoints, so each person builds the output with AI and checks it themselves.

Outcome

Teams leave able to use AI on their own monthly work, and to check what it gives them.
